Director, Research and Development
Position Type/FLSA Status: Full Time
Location: San Diego, CA
The Director, Research and Development is responsible for leading various R&D duties including protocol development, site and vendor assessment and ensuring adherence to applicable guidelines and regulations. The R&D Director leads, directs and mentors a team of R&D personnel, allocating resources as required.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the development of diagnosis tools based on single-molecule RNA FISH technologies, including involvement in clinical trial planning, site training, and data reviews for necessary regulatory submissions. This will include projects involving new tissue types and variants for which clinical claims need to be obtained.
  • Critically analyze experiment data, interpret and integrate experiment results with project objectives.
  • Represent the Research and Development department in all interactions with FDA.
  • Performs fundamental literature and patent searches related new product opportunities. Recognizes opportunities for patent development and develop patent strategies. Assist the legal department in patent preparation.
  • Develop and review SOPs and guidelines for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring SOP and regulatory compliance of staff.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Participating in other research related activities, as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of diagnostic market trends
  • Experience interacting with the FDA through submissions and pre-submissions
  • Experience in assessing the scientific talent of a team, re-design roles as needed, and develop and recruit scientific talent
  • Experience in developing intellectual property strategies
  • Strategic and analytical skill sets
Education and Background:
  • PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline, or the equivalent education and experience are required.
  • Minimum 6 years at Sr. Manager of R&D level in diagnostics or similar regulated industrial markets.
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of at least 5 people.

Scientist, Research and Development
Position Type/FLSA Status: Full Time
Location: San Diego, CA
The Scientist, Research and Development is responsible for development of procedures and methods that translate sequencing technologies into diagnosis tools. The responsibilities include development of sequencing based technologies for detection and quantification of DNA and RNA molecules as well as their mutation, modification, and interactions. Experience with development of sequencing based biotechnologies is required. Experience on analyses of liquid biopsy and FFPE tissue samples and bioinformatic analysis is strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop variations of RNA sequencing techniques for diagnostic applications in diverse clinical, central lab, and point-of-care scenarios
  • Establish new experimental pipelines and workflows
  • Optimize existing experimental pipelines and workflows
  • Generate reliable experimental data with high efficiency
  • Conduct bioinformatic analysis to assess data quality and the applicability of the data to proposed diagnostic applications
  • Establish SOPs, and ensure SOPs are current and appropriate
  • Critically evaluate and integrate relevant scientific, regulatory and business advances into work processes
  • Build technical expertise and intellectual property
  • Produce publication quality documentation for all involved research projects.
Required Skills:
  • Experience with development of sequencing based technologies
  • Experience in nucleic acid biochemistry
  • Knowledge in bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data
  • Strong record of critical thinking and scientific achievement
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast paced team environment

Associate Scientist, Research and Development
Position Type/FLSA Status: Full Time
Location: San Diego, CA
The Associate Scientist, Research and Development is responsible for identifying, developing and optimizing novel RNA detecting technologies and the incorporation into new diagnostic products. Under the supervision of the Director, Research and Development, the individual will initiate, direct and execute scientific research activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Independently make determinations on original research ideas towards the design, execution, and interpretation of research studies.
  • Analyze and interpret results of experiments results.
  • Use extensive background knowledge to optimize experimental procedures, resulting in increased accuracy, consistency, quantity and quality of data.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory.
  • Write SOPs and other related documents.
  • Responsible to develop and review regulatory documentation to support study.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent data records in documentation.
Education and Background:
  • Strong background in molecular biology or bioengineering with a Master’s degree.
  • 0-2 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
Required Skills:
  • Theoretical knowledge of biology, molecular biology or biochemistry
  • Strong knowledge and experience in fluorescent microscopy
  • Strong knowledge and experience in single molecule imaging
  • Experience in developing image-based technologies for disease mechanism study and developing diagnosis tools
  • Experience in microscopy image processing skills, preferred
  • Experience in developing device control softwares, preferred
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast paced team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and verbal communications​

Bioinformatics Scientist, Research and Development
Position Type/FLSA Status: Full Time
Location: San Diego, CA
The Bioinformatics Scientist, Research and Development is responsible for technical development of novel methods, pipelines and algorithms to identify patterns from Genemo’s laboratory developed RNA tests. Working closely with the wet laboratory team, the candidate will use mathematics and computer science to build a new way to pull signals from ultra-deep sequencing data.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Work with large and complex next generation sequencing data sets.
  • Apply advanced analytical methods to solve non-routine analysis problems.
  • Build statistical model to identify hidden patterns in sequencing data sets.
  • Contribute to defined documentation practices in support of regulatory filings, patent filings, publications, grants and other company documents.
Required Skills:
  • Experience in performing data analysis, mining on genomic data from next generation sequencing
  • Strong programming skills in Python and R
  • Strong skills in designing and developing new algorithms
  • Experience with good software engineering practices
  • Familiarity with CLIA and other professional society guidelines for NGS diagnostics, preferred
  • Strong record of critical thinking and scientific achievement
  • Demonstrated technical leaderships skills and a history of success working in cross functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and verbal communications
  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Education and Background:
  • PhD or Master in Mathematics, Physics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
